Colombia - Fundación Niña María
The Project
Based in Chia, Colombia, the organization is home to more than 160 children ranging from ages 2 through 18.
It comprises three programs: the siblings’ homes, a home for children with mental health problems and a home for teenage mothers and their babies.
The center provides them with housing, meals, medical and psychological care, recreational activities, and schooling until adulthood or being adopted by a family.
The Children
The Niña María Home is a “safe haven” to these children that experienced hardships such as abandonment, abuse, exploitation, and being separated
from their siblings. The main objective of the institution is to give these groups of children the chance to grow up in a loving, family environment.
The children get to attend school, learn about responsibility by doing chores around the house, play sports and enjoy many other activities that children their age do.
Aside from meeting their basic needs, this space gives the children the emotional stability they need to grow up healthy and fully develop their abilities.
